I have spent most of my legal career at the National Trust, a nature conservation and heritage charity that I love and which is a privilege to work for. I hope to continue my career within the third or public sector, ideally working in nature conservation. I am particularly well suited to working with clients who may be unfamiliar with dealing with lawyers, or who may be intimated by the process of contracting or handling a commercial dispute. I enjoy the process of helping people through this process, and empowering them to make better commercial decisions. I'm good at empathising with clients and opposing parties to try to find the sensible 'middle ground', which will enable all parties to find a compromise that works for everyone. I particularly enjoy mentoring less experienced lawyers. I like being part of a close-knit team, and I enjoy the process of building relationships with clients and colleagues through managing sometimes difficult or stressful situations.I consider myself to be technically strong (e.g. in terms of understanding the 'mechanics' of any commercial agreement and the background law that governs most contracts). I am intelligent and have good analytical and drafting skills. I believe that a particular strength of mine is the ability to see the bigger picture and apply my knowledge in a pragmatic way. I am used to learning new areas of law quickly to ensure that I'm able to provide a good service to my client, and to having to think quickly on my feet and be open about the limitations of my knowledge and experience, where needed. I'm honest and loyal and I enjoy feeling part of a team. In particular, I enjoy feeling part of the wider team at the National Trust that is dedicated to the promotion of nature and heritage conservation. It is contributing to that 'cause' that I most enjoy about my current role, and would look for a similar 'cause' or 'purpose' in any future role.I spend most of my free time outdoors, running my small farm business 'Oxcombe Ltd' where I seek to apply 'regenerative agriculture' techniques, to produce food and other farm products sustainably and in a way that increases biodiversity. This is a new venture for me and I am still learning, but loving the process!
