Having recently attained a Bachelor of Advanced Science, I transitioned to data analytics and consulting at Workplace Giving Australia, after a two-year stint in marketing and administration. I have always had a “scientific” mind with an aptitude for numbers, but my time as an analyst at Workplace Giving Australia confirmed how much I enjoy working with data. I’ve collected a wide range of experience in the professional world and have enjoyed almost all my jobs over the years. But I’ve never enjoyed the work itself as much as I have when working with data. Searching for relationships between different variables and extracting actionable knowledge has been the most fulfilling work of my career.During my degree, I also worked on several projects in the MQ PACE program, where I analysed satellite data to determine the capability of thermal imaging for measuring the urban heat island effect. I also worked with the Jubilee Australia Research Centre, where I applied my scientific knowledge to researching the effects of nickel mining in the Solomon Islands.The key aspect of good analysis is not just the data itself – it’s how the information relates to the client’s goals. The thrill and challenge comes from understanding WHY something is important, and communicating it in digestible terms.I believe I would make a great asset to your team. I am a good communicator and team player. I am highly passionate about the data analytics and consulting field, and I’m a fast learner. I also established a temporal view of the client's staff philanthropy program - identifying changes over time and noting any significant changes. These insights provided a clear baseline understanding of staff preferences. Once the data was organised, regular meetings were held with clients to understand why these relationships existed. I provided a critical eye for interpreting the data. Data itself doesn't say anything - it is the human's interpretation that holds meaning. Whether it's due to unaccounted variables or bias, poorly interpreted data can completely mislead a company strategy. My most important responsibility was ensuring the data was properly contexualised within its limitations.As a result, clients were able to quickly and easily choose a small number of charity partners from a list of thousands that aligned accurately with both corporate strategy and staff preferences. -
