I am a 3rd year student at Arts University Bournemouth studying Modelmaking. Once graduated, I look to begin my journey as a self-employed Model Maker in the film industry. I have key skills in hard-edged machining, moulding and casting, and paint finishing, with an interest in new prop making projects. My attitude towards my work is what I am most proud of. I take great care and empathy in understanding the needs of a client or employer, whilst making informed suggestions to help guide their vision. Whilst maintaining a professional respect for my work, I develop intense, emotional investment in my projects which drives me to sacrifice other areas of my life to reach a standard that my brief requires and beyond. There is no better feeling than making a client happy, exceeding their expectations, and creating something magnificent that would not have existed without my hand. My film industry experience includes: work experience for BGI Supplies, spending 2 weeks model making and finishing specialist props at their base in Longcross Studios, and a short course at Pinewood Studios, led by Visual Effects artist Leigh Took. This ignited my hunger for being a part of the art department in film making, learning basic moulding, casting, and finishing techniques, as well as being resourceful with scrap material to make an urban cityscape as part of a team. These teamwork skills have developed into leadership skills, shown when I was chosen to head communications for a project for The Tank Museum. This involved managing a team of 12 to design and fabricate a foam tank puzzle at 1:6 scale. I have experience in large construction projects, with a background in architecture giving me a comprehensive understanding of scale and an academic grasp of the physics involved in producing large models.Social and environmental considerations take an important role in my decision making. It is important to me to reflect upon my privilege in society and how using oppressed cultures to influence my work might reinforce existing discriminatory systems. Being a part of a stereotypically unsustainable industry in film, I strive to involve more environmentally thoughtful processes and materials in my work. Some of my personal research on the side of my career will look to both influence my own projects, as well as pitch new ideas to companies I work with to make their processes cheap and efficient whilst lessening their carbon footprint.
