As a Senior Energy Specialist in the Office of Regulatory Staff’s Energy Office I manage or support several programs and initiatives dedicated to promoting renewable energy, energy efficiency, and clean transportation in South Carolina. These include the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program, the Training for Residential Energy Contractors Program, the Energy Auditor Training Grant Program, the SC Electric Vehicle Stakeholder Initiative, and the SC Electric Vehicle Awareness Campaign.Implementing these efforts involves managing grants, developing solicitations for services, overseeing contracts with vendors, and engaging stakeholders through collaboration, education, and outreach.

In my role as a Testing and Immunization Manager in SCDHEC’s COVID-19 Coordination Office, I oversaw the COVID-19 Community Testing, Community Vaccination, and Homebound Vaccination Programs.Successfully implementing these programs involved developing solicitations for services, managing contracts with vendors, processing invoices, coordinating with logistics and warehouse staff, and communicating reliable, evidence-based information focused on disease prevention.

As the Testing Branch Director for SCDHEC’s COVID-19 Incident Command, I oversaw a team of 30 staff dedicated to providing widespread access to free COVID-19 PCR and rapid antigen testing throughout South Carolina.This involved building community partnerships, developing solicitations for services, managing contracts with vendors, collaborating with CDC and other public health organizations, and communicating reliable, evidence-based information focused on disease prevention.

As an Environmental Health Manager in SCDHEC’s Bureau of Air Quality I primarily managed the state’s Diesel Emissions Reduction Act (DERA) grant program. This involved working alongside EPA Region 4 staff and stakeholders throughout South Carolina to implement projects designed to reduce harmful emissions from diesel engines. I also provided support for several other programs/activities within SCDHEC's Bureau of Air Quality including the South Carolina Radon program, the USDE Green Ribbon Schools program in South Carolina, and the South Carolina Air Quality Coalitions.

I provided general administrative and clerical support to faculty and staff advisors in the undergraduate student services office, handled reception, and acted as the first point of contact for students and visitors. I also communicated with current and prospective students via phone, e-mail, and in-person meetings, and maintained the filing system for all undergraduate public health, exercise science, and athletic training students.

As a research assistant, I participated in a number of qualitative studies focused on tobacco regulation and smoking cessation. Some of my responsibilities included conducting, transcribing, coding, and analyzing interviews, investigating childhood exposure to tobacco in video games, and studying physicians' attitudes towards electronic cigarettes.

As a vector surveillance intern, I worked alongside the state public health entomologist to sort, classify, and test mosquitos for various infectious diseases which threaten public health. I also partnered with faculty in the Arnold School of Public Health to analyze the relationships between mosquito population density and land cover using geographic information systems (GIS).

During my time in Jordan, I led efforts to establish an electronic health records system for Operation Mercy’s Community Health Program, applied for a $30,000 grant to support the continued operations of the Community Health Program, and gathered epidemiological data from community health clinics. I also used the data to create educational materials focused on addressing the health conditions with the highest prevalence rates in the community.

During my summer in Uganda I interned with Partnership Uganda, a small non-profit organization near Lugazi, Uganda dedicated to improving the lives of women and children through education, health care, and microfinance. My responsibilities included working with the organization's co-directors and locals in the village of Bulumagi to plan and execute medical clinic and microfinance banking events. I also worked with a local NGO, the Youth Focus Africa Foundation, to develop a curriculum and teach an infectious disease public health course in a primary school.

While working at the Ronald McDonald House Charities I planned events, coordinated with volunteers and donors, and performed daily house operations which included filling out and filing paperwork, checking families in and out, and assisting guests with any needs or complaints.
