My role as regional director includes the management of our branch office in Pietermaritzburg consisting of three permanent staff. It also includes chairing our IT Committee, management of our company IT hardware and software installations, implementing and running IT based business management tools, participating in the strategic planning of the company, day to day management of my office, managing staff, retaining Clients and sourcing new business for the firm. Due to the small size of the office I am also actively involved in preparing viability studies, estimates, value engineering, preparing contractual documentation and administering projects.

During this period I was seconded to the Consortium responsible for the construction of the greenfields King Shaka International Airport outside Durban. My role included the cost management of the passenger terminal building and included administration, estimating and value engineering. This was a fantastic project to be a part of in and a once in a lifetime experience to be involved in the construction of a green fields airport. This is definitely a major highlight in my career and the largest and one of the most complex projects I have worked on to date. It was fantastic to be involved with such a dynamic and enthusiastic team who were driven to the success of the project. Their were many complexities and challenges to over come and we all grew immensely over this period. The structure of the consortium was very interesting and it was the first FIDIC and design and building project of this magnitude I had been involved in.

My role as Quantity Surveyor included to a lesser degree preparing viability studies but in the main included preparing estimates, value engineering, preparing contractual documentation and administering projects. I also completed my professional registration in this period and sat for my Council interview in April 2006 and was registered as a Professional Quantity Surveyor.

Part time work while completing my honours degree in Quantity Surveying. My role included assisting the contracts manager in the construction of a new private senior primary school in Umhlanga. I was responsible for the preparation of monthly progress claims, sub-contract payments and negotiations with the Clients Quantity Surveyor on claims and the final account.
