Supporting young adults who have special needs to live with increasing independence

Working in the inclusion department developing programmes of study for our pupils, monitoring staff and giving feedback. Advised staff and organised training related to pupils needs. Provided reports and annual reviews and liaised between different outside agencies, overseeing any programmes put in place. I am very proud of the fact that I set up and ran a sensory circuit and a lego therapy group in collaboration with the speech and language therpapist. Set up the use of colourful semantics in several classes and liased with the EAL coordinator to use the colour coded system across the school to support any child finding reading, writing or speaking and listening difficult. I completed a year's training as a reading recovery teacher.

Teaching a class of Pupil's with SEN, in particular a diagnosis of Autism. Great experience and I learnt an awful lot about sensory overload, teaching a very creative and stimulating curriculum that involved using a variety of senses, providing a varied sensory diet to cater for the varying needs our pupils had, using PECs, writing annual reviews, teaching life skills and the value of non curricular based activities and life experiences in a child's educational development. Wrote, implemented and evaluated personal learning plans for all pupils in my class.

Teaching a class of pupils who had a variety of special needs and some very challenging behaviours - absolutely loved my first time in a special needs school.

I worked with various agencies as an ad hoc supply teacher - Learnt to be creative and think quickly!
