TL;DR My personal and professional worlds revolve around plants and soil and I'd love nothing more than to talk to you about both. I am committed to work that supports sustainability and resiliency in agricultural and environmental systems. I also quite enjoy working in a teaching capacity, whether it be one-on-one farm visits, in the classroom with students, or engaging with the general public. My research approach hinges on whole-system analysis and implementation. I study agricultural systems with foci on nutrient management, soil health, crop yield and quality responses, season extension, and economic viability. My scientific scope is broad. I am just as happy to find myself discussing biological pathways and sequencing work as I am to be next to a manure pit or developing management recommendations based on soil tests. Likewise, I am equally at ease puzzling out a new, sensitive method in the lab as I am collecting field samples in the cold and mud. I ascribe to the unofficial Stockbridge motto: We put science to work!I apply my broad scope of experience and comprehensive understanding of fundamental biological and physiological mechanisms to my field-scale research as well as to my recommendations for farmers and land managers. In other words, I work to fill the gap between "nitty gritty" science and management practices that make sense.
