Sam Cordes has spent more than twenty years as a professional theater artist, educator, and entrepreneur. Making his stage debut at the age of five, his passion for teaching is inspired by the teachers and mentors who helped develop his craft and nurture his creative spirit. Sam was an Adjunct Professor of Theatre at Hastings College in Hastings, NE where he taught courses in acting, movement for the stage, and stage management. He also directs productions on campus and in response to the pandemic, created The Sunday Show, a virtual variety show created by students and live-streamed monthly. While in graduate school at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Sam worked as graduate assistant acting teacher for majors and non-majors. While he was honing his own skills as a professional actor, his teaching experience revealed the powerful benefits of theater education for students not pursuing the art form as a career. A graduate of Stephens College, Sam has returned numerous times to his alma mater’s Okoboji Summer Theater in Iowa as a guest artist, mentor, and teacher. Sam’s experience with K-12 students includes teaching artist for Camp Shakespeare, the Heart of America Shakespeare’s award-winning education program for children ages 8-17; and Kansas City Repertory Theatre’s Rep on the Road education program introducing class and contemporary plays and theatre skills to urban core students in all-day and week-long residencies. Sam has extensive experience with a variety of acting techniques and styles, movement, voice, stage combat, acting-for-the-camera skills, voice-over technique, production management, design and basic stage-craft skills and computers and technology. He is an avid cyclist and bike mechanic and in 2019 became the Director of Touring for Agile Rascal Bicycle Touring Theater, a theatre company that tours original plays on bicycles.
