My career from Ernst & Young through to FMRC has equipped me with a wide range of management skills in professional services through to primary industry. Equity Advice and Succession Planning: I work with firms of all size to develop appropriate structures to bring in new equity holders and plan for the smooth exit of retiring partners. I have developed models to transition firms from the limitations of a goodwill structure to a more effective lockstep arrangement.Strategic Planning: Whilst my approach to strategic planning is tailored for each engagement , the common goal is that at the end of the process the owners and managers will know exactly what needs to be done to ensure their firm is best placed to win in its chosen market.Sales and Mergers: I act for all parties seeking to acquire, sell or merge a law firm. My extensive understanding of and contacts in the legal profession enables me to conclude a deal more effectively than those who dabble in this space.Equity Valuations: I am Australia's leading law firm valuer. These valuations have been used for: internal equity sales; determining goodwill for incorporation; Family Law disputes; partnership dissolution; external sales. I have developed a unique approach to calculate an accurate capitalisation rate that makes my valuations of goodwill more accurate than those who use inappropriate, outdated ‘rules of thumb’. Management Training: I am a key presenter at FMRC workshops and will present to 700+ lawyers each year in the areas of management, business development, succession planning, strategy, and other contemporary issues. My first 5 years in the workforce were at Ernst & Young in their Corporate Recovery and Consulting departments where I worked with storied rural enterprises managing their day-to-day operations and preparing them for eventual sale.I have driven the formation of Carpentaria Cattle Company having developed the concept, forged relationships with all stakeholders - particularly the Traditional Owners of the leased properties - led negotiations and developed the business plan.Operationally, I am responsible for optimising the land and livestock assets of CCCo and delivering returns to Shareholders.
