As a class teacher, I have taught in years four, five and six. I pride myself on the strong relationships I build with my pupils and the caring but rigorous atmosphere of my classroom. I am particularly passionate about developing children as readers, writers and speakers and have a strong track record of embedding reading and writing for pleasure cultures across multiple classes. • As history lead, I shepherded my subject through a deep dive in an Ofsted inspection, which resulted in an outstanding rating. I played a key role in developing our curriculum. As history lead, I led whole-school training on best practice for assessment.• As oracy lead, I was in charge of the school's debating offering, which ran from year two to year six. In my five years of involvement, we won four national debating titles. I developed our relationships with external organisations, particularly Debate Mate, leading to exclusive opportunities for our students. I was in charge of managing the East London Debating League, involving 19 schools. Similarly, I ran the East London Speechmaking Festival for a number of years, delivering training for teachers across multiple schools and dealing with all the logistics of the event. I ran our Shakespeare programme; we annually performed a Shakespeare play (in its original language) at a professional theatre as part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival. I had responsibility for auditioning and casting the children, teaching the understanding of the play and then running rehearsals on one afternoon a week and in an after-school club to ensure it met a very high standard. I have run whole-school training both on the use of oracy to improve learning and to support wellbeing.• In addition to these official roles, I have always been keen to take on extra responsibility. Towards this end, I ran the school’s teacher-writer group, helping develop the members both as effective teachers of writing – I have also run whole-school training on this topic.

Working on the iPad and Android editions of the newspapers; subbing copy, writing headlines and captions, choosing pictures and laying out stories using both InDesign and Escenic.

- Worked as executive editor of the student media on campus, running the team and overseeing all aspects of the production, administration and distribution of the media.- Coordinated the publicity of Students’ Union activities and campaigns.- Acted as a representative of the 16,000 students at Queen Mary to the college and to external organisations.

- Founder of Queen Mary’s student television station, we won awards for our news coverage of the student protests and the Occupy London movement at the National Student Television Association Awards and Sky News broadcast coverage of the Milbank riots filmed by myself and my team.- Oversaw productions using camera and sound equipment and edited on iMovie, Final Cut Pro 9 and 10.

- Coordinated the news section the fortnightly paper which I successfully made weekly when I became editor.- Under my editorship the newspaper won an award at the London Student Journalism Awards (Best Comment Article) and broke the story that the President of the University of London Union had posted anti-­‐ Semitic comments on Facebook, the story was picked up by The Daily Mail.

- Published articles in the news, features, reviews, film and music sections of the magazine.- Under my editorship the magazine won an award at the London Student Media Awards (Best Photography).

I libel checked Europe’s largest student newspaper, the paper could not be distributed without my approval.

- Live-­‐blogged the student marches of 2010/11 and the March for the Alternative, using Wordpress and Scribble Live. Received thousands of hits and the content was picked up by The Guardian and The Telegraph.- Co-­‐founded and edited The Delegate, the first newspaper covering the National Union of Students annual conference, we published twice-­‐daily. We won the award for Best Student Media at the NUS Awards 2011.
