My storey started at my fathers business going out with him, sat next to him on a cat432b. I loved it, at every opportunity I was pretending to drive diggers. Once I left school, I headed to reaseheath college to study agricultural engineering. From there I moved down to Shropshire working for a firm and ( a close friend of the family) called S P Holding. Being around Steve driving tractors, diggers and going out with the tanker boys was a great experience but it wasn’t for me. From here I found a Job with another great friend of the family called Tommy Halligan of Total Plant Hire l. Now this was me, this is what was childhood dream, going from job to job driving all sorts, and all sizes of diggers. I was in my element until 1 silly night, after a few drinks on a works night out I decided to drive home. I went to court and was found guilty of drink driving, not my proudest moment. My dad said that he would take me on for 12 months until I got my license back but Tommy said not a chance, he wanted me to keep working for him. After a few years of gaining so much experience from Tommy and the team I moved to Flannery plant hire as a class 2 lorry driver. Now this was an experience at another level. What a company to work for. Gareth was firm but very fair. Looking at how he was with the lads and how he ran the Manchester depot was an unbelievable experience. From here I went working for another friend, David Mcgreggor for his civil engineering business around the country. I learnt some more new skills with sheet piling etc and another huge experience with something else under my belt. Then I got a phone call from my father, he would like me back at his firm, he wanted to grow his business in the plant hire. To which I went and we grew to a decent size but nothing compared to the companies I have mentioned above. Unfortunately after a family fall out I went working for a friend for a very short term but it wasn’t for me, I wanted to set up by myself. So here I am, the owner of Operated Plant Hire Ltd, ground works and drainage contractors. I bought myself a Sany 1.8 t excavator from Ross Quinn at the Orrell group Ltd. I have a couple of lads working for me, and we go from Job to Job. With no advertising apart from word of mouth. I have a fantastic and great number to clients with more that keep coming.
