During my time as a peer tutor, I had the incredible opportunity to uplift and inspire my fellow students on their academic journeys. My role was to serve as a guiding light, igniting the spark of understanding and fostering a supportive learning environment. With each session, I cultivated knowledge, built confidence, and celebrated breakthroughs, all while forging meaningful connections. Through my dedication, I contributed to a brighter, more empowered community where success was shared and the joy of learning flourished among us.Throughout my short time as a peer tutor, I dedicated myself to not only imparting knowledge but also to cultivating strong relationships with the students I had the privilege of assisting. I recognized that a solid connection often led to more effective learning, so I took the time to understand their unique learning styles, strengths, and challenges. By doing so, I could tailor my tutoring approach to suit their individual needs, creating a comfortable and encouraging atmosphere.In addition to building relationships, I actively worked on developing strategies for their academic success. In this approach, samples from multiple individuals are combined into a single pool and tested together. If the pool tests negative, then all individuals in that pool are assumed to be negative. If the pool tests positive, further individual testing is conducted to identify the specific positive case(s).Group testing is particularly useful when the prevalence of the trait or condition is low, as it helps to identify positive cases more cost-effectively. It has been used in various fields, including medical testing (such as for infectious diseases like COVID-19), genetics, and quality control.By testing multiple samples simultaneously, group testing can save time, resources, and reduce the number of tests needed, making it an efficient strategy for large-scale screening and surveillance efforts.The research done here was applying group testing theory and algorithms to salmonella inoculated vials. Analysis was provided through a python script and an android phone application for recovery of the positive pooled tests.

As a peer mentor for HullabalooU, I had the opportunity to guide and support first-year students as they transitioned to college life at Texas A&M. I shared my own insights and advice on how to succeed academically, socially, and personally. I facilitated discussions on topics such as diversity, leadership, and campus resources. I also helped prepare lessons and activities that enhanced the students’ learning and engagement. I enjoyed being a role model and a friend to the students, and I learned a lot from them as well. Being a peer mentor for HullabalooU was one of the most memorable and meaningful experiences of my sophomore year.
