Since 2017, I have been studying for a BCompSci at the University of Newcastle, majoring in software development. During that time I have completed an internship at BMT Tax Depreciation Pty Ltd, and am currently working as a software developer at Berendsen Fluid Power, both in the Greater Newcastle area.At BMT I learnt to navigate a full team of software developers, honing my skills in the languages C#, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL and even Delphi. Testing was an important part of this role - with a dozen seniors to impress, no mistake slipped by them! It was important to get it right the first time, saving time and resources. At Berendsen I am currently the junior in a team of 2. I still work with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, however I also use FreeMarker for web templates and MongoDB for database management. In addition, the smaller team means I've been required to build my testing skills further. My primary role is still to build software for the other departments. However I provide solutions to other companies in the Questas group nationwide, as well as providing more general tech support. I also produce technical documents, such as instructional, prototype and design documents.Prior to working in software development, I was a chef/commercial cook. A surprising amount of relevant skills carried over to software development. There I built skills in managing pressure under intense deadlines, communication and customer relations, and general tidiness - in the case of development, physical, environmental and "virtual".
