Operate a step feed nitrification and denitrification activated sludge wastewater treatment facility that produces approximately 20 million gallons of reclaimed water per day. Monitor all plant biological and mechanical processes to assure compliance with state water treatment permits through a Distributed Control System (DCS) and by visual equipment inspections. Operate and adjust valves and gates by local, manual or remote controls as necessary. Troubleshoot equipment problems as they arise and issue work orders when needed. Provide assistance to various electrical and instrumentation crews as well as mechanical and construction work crews as it pertains to preventive maintenance and plant operations. Utilize testing equipment such as settleometers and colorimeters to conduct various water sampling and testing procedures for the verification of plant conditions and adequate disinfection. Maintain a log of operations and record meter and gauge readings. Monitor plant chemical and consumable supplies usage and assure adequate supply levels. Give operational and safety instructions to plant attendants and temporary workers in the performance of routine operations and maintenance projects. Conduct plant shutdowns and start-ups as necessary for plant maintenance.
