Growing up, I wanted to be a lot of different things. Every time I would watch a movie with a dynamic character or read a book with an influential message, I wanted to immerse myself into one of those roles. A karate champion, a paleontologist, a gold medalist… the Goblin King from Jim Henson’s Labyrinth. My parents had to always be ready for the next phase to come around so they could stay relevant to my interests. By the time that I was trying to be Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean, my teacher was asking me to draw what I wanted to be when I grew up. I would draw something different and fantastic each time. When I became obsessed with the bow-wielding Katniss Everdeen, I was signed up to take part in a middle school career fair. And once I reached my interest in Anne Rice’s Louis and Lestat, I was at the precipice of declaring a major at the University of South Florida. I had no idea what dream to follow, what passion to channel into an educational and, eventually, a life path. There were too many, yet not enough options. I began to realize that among all these characters I collected in my love of stories left me with one broad but imperative discovery- I wanted to create a lasting and positive impact on others. As I went through university and beyond, I found ways to do that in ways that brought others and myself joy. Coincidentally, one of them was being a martial arts master- but that’s a story for another time! When I joined the field of ABA, I didn’t know what I was in for. I was greeted with an incredible team of passionate individuals who have the same goal that I do- influencing communities in a positive and lasting way. As a career advisor, I seek to assist enthusiastic individuals in discovering their passions and ways to channel them in an impactful way for not only themselves, but the community at large.
