I am responsible for archiving media content to a digital archive; sourcing and clearing footage and images for newsroom use from across Sky channels and third party archives; observing copyright and fair dealing laws - taking advice from the in-house lawyer when necessary. I am also involved in supplying footage and images in all formats used internally and externally in both SD and HD formats, encoding files when necessary. I select the most appropriate pictures and upload footage to Getty Images website for sales exposure. I also edit footage for various uses and respond to sales requests and enquiries from other departments and companies. Cataloguing forms part of my role and I do this in native formats, adding new and existing images and footage with metadata, including captioning. My role also includes researching and restoring footage and digital images for the newsroom. I manage media for archive storage and troubleshoot all applications ensuring they are used to greatest effect, creating workarounds when needed.

Prior to being promoted I was engaged as an assistant researching footage using digital and tape archive, making footage available for the newsroom from all tape formats / image formats. I was involved in captioning raw footage and logging from EDLs of packaged reports. I was responsible for archiving the backlog of rushes. I also sent contributor’s DVD copies of their appearances. The role was heavily involved in technical aspects of broadcast engineering. I primarily ensured footage was ingested onto servers and logged correctly to ensure that Sky News could deliver breaking news continuously over a twenty four hour period.

A very challenging role that required me to be highly organised and methodical. The job was rooted in television advertising and required me to liaise with agencies to handle campaigns on a large budget on a national scale. The role was very testing and required high levels of numeracy combined with communication and bargaining tenacity. As this was going to be a short term contract I was applying for other roles while working here and secured employment at Sky News.

Before gaining permanent employment I was offered an internship where I sourced media via social networks and other sources to be used in the magazine across all of its platforms. The position developed my writing style and taught me new practical, operational and technical skills in a fast paced and changeable environment. I worked on features, online, picture desk, video, blogs and shoots. The role allowed me to learn on the job and made me a more engaging writer, making my content more concise and condensed. I researched people, places and searched for stories that entertained and engaged our diverse and international readership. I had articles published and collated ideas that appealed to the readership
