I Started work at the MPG Group as a Designer in 2006 and spent a total of 4 years working on all aspects of design for a specialist sub-contractor within the building envelope sector. I worked on a range of projects from schools, residential, hospitals and commercial buildings with values from £0.5M up to £8M in value.Design duties included:-- Full design interface details and sections with primary structure and other trades- Scheduling materials such as Glass, Terracotta, Aluminium cladding, Stone Cladding, Timber cladding, Windows, Curtain walling and doors- Attending design meetings to liaise with Architects, Engineers and Main Contractors - Value Engineering projects to get maximum commercial advantages whilst still maintaining the required level of design integrity.After 4 years of working in Design I moved over to the estimating department within MPG to further challenge myself, I brought to the role an excellent technical understanding of the systems and construction methods that MPG were working with at that time. Solely securing projects up to around £2.5M and working on tenders up to around £8M as part of the estimating team.Estimating duties included:-- Technically appraising the enquiries upon receipt from the clients- Compiling clear and concise tenders, highlighting inclusions, exclusions and elements that could be value engineered in order to save the client money and secure the work for MPG- Attending mid-bid and post tender meetings to discuss the tenders I had produced and being able to clearly and efficiently explain the tenders and the reasons behind decisions made in compiling the tender submission
