Sam Gardner is an experienced leader with track record of empowering teams to deliver imaginative and impactful work to help secure a sustainable future for all. He has particular expertise in relation to strategic planning and partnership development across sectors with a focus on climate, energy and environmental policy.Sam has worked in environmental policy for over 20 years in the public, private and charity sectors. His most recent experience has seen him drive the sustainable development agenda across ScottishPower leading on initiatives such as SBTi, Sustainable Development Strategy, TCFD and TNFD and COP26 engagement.Throughout his career his work has focussed on shaping Scotland’s response to climate change. In particular he was closely engaged with the introduction of the Climate Change Act (2009), Scotland’s Energy Strategy, the EV Road Map, the Scottish Energy Efficiency Programme and multiple Climate Change delivery plans from the Scottish Government. Sam enjoyed a period of time as interim Head of the UK Climate and Energy team for WWF and was part of a small team within WWF UK to build the organisations next 10yr strategy. During his time at WWF Scotland Sam enjoyed a secondment to the Scottish Government to develop the monitoring program for the statutory Climate Change Plan. His last two years at WWF were spent as acting Director of the Scotland team and Deputy Director. During this time he had overall responsibility for the delivery of the strategic plan across policy, comms, brand, fundraising and advocacy. Sam joined ScottishPower in late 2019.A confident and experienced communicator, Sam is comfortable presenting to large audiences, media or at C Suite/Ministerial level.Sam was a Director of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland for 6 years and on the Board of Scottish Environment Link. He has also been a Board member of Evaluation Support Scotland for 6 years. He Chaired the Edinburgh Climate Commission for three years. He is a member of the Climate Emergency Research Group (CERG) and is an advisor on the Scottish Government's Climate Change Plan Advisory Group.
