I am a hard-working, intelligent and highly motivated software engineer, with a passion for learning and problem solving. I have strong experience of programming with Python in different environments, web development in React.js with Redux, database design and development using PostgreSQL, amongst others. I am particularly excited by machine learning, having effectively tackled a range of machine learning problems over the last two years, ranging from data mining a health dataset using the KDD process, to using time series classification techniques to successfully classify calisthenics exercises, and implementing models in browser using TensorFlow.js. As I also have a philosophy background from my BA and MA, I am very interested in the philosophical issues surrounding the use of artificial intelligence. In particular, I am fascinated by the ethical and political considerations for implementing these technologies, and I have recently written about the risks of ML models reinforcing existing societal biases.

The garden consists of four acres and comprises formal lawns, herbaceous borders, an ornamental herb garden, a mature rose walk, wildflower meadows, an organic vegetable garden, plant nursery, shrub borders full of rare and unusual plants, and more. Day-to-day, I line-managed an Assistant Gardener and took responsibility for a group of 8-12 volunteers, some of whom have mental and physical ill health. I also trained four work experience students, several of whom went on to well-respected roles within horticulture. Health and safety in the garden and budgeting also fell under my responsibility. During the summer, I regularly led tours for private groups and local horticultural societies, as well as organising garden events and running a small plant nursery. -

The structure of the first year of the diploma is based around horticultural knowledge and best practice. The second year aims to develop this knowledge whilst giving training for managing teams, budgets and projects.I undertook placements in all garden teams at RHS Garden Wisley, managing and maintaining formal, herbaceous and edible areas of the garden, including the orchard, as well as learning about tropical glasshouse plants, alpines and more. Each placement lasted between six and twelve weeks, and saw me working five days a week as a member of the team. In addition, I had the opportunity to gain experience of managing other students and apprentices, plus volunteers and staff members.
