Using MATLAB; COMSOL and Solid Edge as part of the daily toolkit, I provided technical support to programmes in the underwater defence domain. Amongst general assistance, activities have included the prediction, analysis and subsequent operational guidance for non-acoustic signature metrics for Submarines and underwater systems; preparations for, the assistance and the conduct of both on and off-site trials activities for a product recently delivered to the UK Navy; the spearheading of an architectural software design rework for Successor and providing subject matter tutorials; CAD guidance and server management monitoring for the Department.I was involved heavily in positive outward interaction and the innovation life-cycle at AEUK: by providing assistance at open days and university careers fairs; attending the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition in 2017 and in 2018 the Disruptive Technology for Defence Transformation conference alongside the Croatian Ministry of Defence and General Sir Richard Barrons, the Former Commander of the Joint Forces Command.

Technical lead; designer and tester for a novel in-house hydrophone design to be used in future sonar arrays with the UK Navy. Assisted in the development and calibration of sonar systems; submitted numerous research proposals; investigated low technology readiness level research studies and developed first principle models to support the design of complex defence security systems. Over this period, the 2-year AEUK Graduate Scheme and Project was fulfilled as partial requirements for IMechE’s Monitored Professional Development Scheme (MPDS). The project was a Thin-Line Towed Sonar Array for UUV use, highlighting and introducing the life-cycle management of a product.

Facilitated Design for Manufacture for all core components as part of a duo: these activities directly contributed to significant program savings of over £1m. Concurrently a feasibility survey for a novel production material was explored and validation trials for its use in the next generation reactor were established and presented.

Responsible for an individual research project upon the Turbine Blade film cooling hole machining method, providing rare exposure to the Aeronautical, Nuclear and Manufacturing sides of the business. Alongside this activity was a shadowing task of a member of the safety critical team for the manufacture of Successor’s nuclear reactor.
