Working in the technology transfer department of LifeArc my primary role was is to facilitate the commercialisation of academic research coming out of the MRC and London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. More specifically I managed all commercial, IP and licencing opportunities coming out of the LMB Neurobiology Division, MRC Harwell (Mary Lyon Centre and Mammalian Genetics Unit) and London Institute for Medical Sciences.In addition to this is managed the IP for a number of LifeArc portfolio assets, including humanized monoclonal antibodies and small molecules.

Working at the junction between academia and industry I helped academics to identify novel and inventive steps in their research, securing patents and promoting innovation. In addition to this, I worked with industry to acquire access to innovative research and devices through the use of non-disclosure agreements, licences, copyright agreements and spin-out opportunities. I also performed market research to assess the commercial applicability of potential patents and technology. Identifying areas of the market patents could exploit, helping potential licensees to gain a competitive advantage.

Division of Stem Cell Biology and Developmental GeneticsMy main research interests focused on stem cells, and how they contribute to tissue morphogenesis and more specifically pituitary organogenesis. I studied the role of HMG box transcription factor Sox2 in pituitary stem cells/progenitors. Through the use of in vivo and in vitro techniques I aimed to elucidate how SOX2 contributes to pituitary development and how mutations in SOX2 can cause pituitary abnormalities.
