Mantel Capture is a point source carbon capture company utilizing patented molten salt technology from MIT Professor T. Alan Hatton’s Lab. My internship was focused on prototype design and assembly, salt corrosion and automation. 1)Used SEM and XRD imaging to identify the main mode of corrosion present in Mantel’s system; Enabled proper material selection and more informed corrosion experiments. Standardized all future corrosion testing by creating an autonomous flowing salt corrosion testing apparatus for highly specific flow turbulences and velocities2)Built / machined Mantel’s large lab pilot unit and created a data collection system for first-ever large scale experimentation of the carbonization kinetics of the molten salt

Carbon Built decarbonizes cement through their patented carbon dioxide curing process that mineralizes carbon dioxide, improves curing time and increases strength. My internship focused on prototype design and assembly, performance testing and wet chemistry.1)Designed and built a new semi-adiabatic calorimeter to formulate a new cement block mixture using lime kiln dust to reduce the cost of cement by 10% and its carbon footprint by 21%, while only reducing its strength by <5% 2)Constructed and designed a new carbonization reactor that increased cement strength by 3% and carbonization potential by 8-18%

My internships focused on prototype design and assembly, performance testing and material selection.1)Designed new nozzle to amplify system pump efficiency and to enhance the size and stability of nanobubbles; Listed as co-inventor on the resulting patent application. 2)Researched pore strength to select ceramic materials that eliminated gas leakage from the nanobubble generators 3)Built and designed the company’s first separation tanks for testing nano-bubble’s improvement in ore separation via aqueous solutions
