After Selby College was awarded the Pearson Silver Teaching Award category for FE Team of the Year in 2014, I accepted a position panel for 'The Pearson Teaching Awards 2015'. The Teaching Awards works in education to support young people in achievingtheir potential through 3 main projects. The Pearson Teaching Awards identifies and celebrates exceptional teachers who are achieving outstanding results, often in the most challenging circumstances. As a judge for the 2015 Pearson Teaching award, it is my responsibility to; -to assess endorsed nominations and make recommendations for silver winners and a gold winner within the Award category to which the judge has been assigned-to uphold the integrity of judging within the Teaching Awards, ensuring an open, honest and accountable process -to represent the Teaching Awards in schools, colleges and elsewhere in ways that support the Teaching Awards’ values, mission and purpose.

My role is to deliver practical skills development to VRQ (Food and Beverage Service) to Entry Level, Level 1 and Level 2 students within the Hospitality curriculum area. I also teach theory sessions to Level 2 Food and Beverage service students and coach, train and assess all levels of students in the front of house department. As part of my role, I am responsible for the management the training restaurant within Selby College which also means liaising with our SAM, Estates Manager & Technicians for the smooth running of the training restaurant. I prepare learning materials for practical subjects for front of house at certificate level, Level 1 and Level 2. I also prepare learning materials for theory for all my level 2 students and monitor, review and evaluate student progress on a regular basis.
