As a Connexions Digital Adviser I offer information and support to the NEET 16-18 age group within the Wakefield area. The support I offer is delivered by phone, email and contact via social media, primarily Facebook. My role involves tracking this particular group and offering support into education, employment or training, maintaining a caseload of current Yr12 & 13 young people. I use social media to promote available support and opportunities as well as specialised events such as NEET events where NEET young people can meet training providers face to face to discuss their options. I am also involved in the organisation of these events and contribute to team planning. I liaise with other professionals including social care, training providers, colleges and schools and housing agencies in order to provide all round support for vulnerable young people as needed. I currently work alongside Wakefield YOT to offer support to their NEET 16-18 age group, as well as supporting any young person within the benefits system into a positive outcome.

I co-ordinate and manage a caseload of 30 young people with various barriers which prevent them from moving into education, employment or training. I offer one to one support and provide targeted information advice and guidance around options and choices available. I also provide support with various issues ranging from housing, benefits, relationships, all aspects of health, particularly mental and sexual health. I work alongside other agencies including social care, YOS and CAMHs and signpost/refer young people to services when needed and support YP into their chosen outcomes, often providing support in order for them to maintain their choice.I also attend regular drop-ins for Children Looked After and YOS as well as city centre duty within the Opportunities Centre and provide tracking support for those YP who are difficult to find by phone, social media and home visits.
