Sam Harmelech is a commercial real estate professional with experience in various elements of the commercial real estate industry. Currently, Sam is the Associate General Counsel, Real Assets of Legal & General Investment Management America, Inc. ("LGIMA"), which is the Chicago-based American affiliate of London-based Legal & General Investment Management ("LGIM"). LGIM is the asset management business of London-based Legal & General Group plc (LON: LGEN). Globally, with all of its affiliates, LGIM has assets under management of approximately $1.476 trillion as of December 31, 2023. In Sam's role as Associate General Counsel, Real Assets of LGIMA, he supports LGIMA's Real Assets business, which includes Private Credit (Investment Grade Private Placement debt), Real Estate Debt (traditional senior lien real estate loans), and Real Estate Equity. Although Sam supports the entire business unit with various aspects of their transactions, Sam's main focus is working with the newly created Real Estate Equity team to help structure and stand up the investment platform. As LGIM's Real Estate Equity group in the UK manages approximately $25bn of real estate, LGIM has decided to continue its Real Estate Equity success by expanding to the US with LGIMA. Once the investment platform is set up at LGIMA, Sam will be working with the Real Estate Equity acquisitions team to negotiate, structure, due diligence, and close acquisitions, as well as working with the asset management team to work on the day-to-day management of the assets and eventual disposition of the assets. LGIMA's initial focus will be direct equity investments in both multifamily and industrial real estate assets.Previously, Sam was a Vice President of Real Estate & Associate General Counsel at Verano Holdings Corp., a commercial real estate transactional attorney at Dentons US LLP, a Retail Asset Manager at The Scion Group, and a Lease Restructuring Consultant at Hilco Real Estate. Sam brings a unique perspective to the commercial real estate industry as he has been involved in the industry as an attorney, investor, landlord, tenant, and consultant.Sam lives in a Chicago suburb with his wife, Esther, son, Jonah, and dog, Cecelia (“CeCe”). He enjoys cheering on his favorite Chicago sports teams (Bulls, Bears, Cubs, Blackhawks), trying all the best new restaurants the city has to offer, and traveling the world with his wife.Sam is both a licensed real estate broker in the state of Illinois and a licensed attorney in the state of Illinois.
