Working with Professor Jason Belitsky in his laboratory, I investigate catechol compounds as colorimetric sensors for the detections of metal ions in aqueous solutions. Potential applications of these sensors include the detection of lead in drinking water. My roles include optimizing and preforming the synthesis of the sensors, testing the performance of the sensors in metal ion solutions, and collecting and analyzing colorimetric data from the sensors.

I worked as teaching assistant in an introductory chemistry laboratory during the spring 2021 semester. I assisted students, primarily freshmen, with performing experiments, safely handling chemicals, and analyzing experimental results.

Repustar is an app based company that seeks to combat misinformation and fake news on the internet. Users can flag questionable claims they see on the internet and receive a timely report on the veracity of the flagged content. My job was researching relevant primary and authoritative sources and writing brief reports confirming or refuting questionable claims flagged by users.Additionally, I created a database of sources organized by topic and reliability (as evaluated by media bias/fact check) for reference by future employees.

I worked in the Bureau of Water Supply, specifically in Water Quality Operations, assisting the laboratory scientists in tasks such as data entry and analysis, and Laboratory management. I learned about database management, sample testing, and the day to day operation of a laboratory.

Griswold Professor of Politics Michael Parkin with research comparing how members of the U.S. House of Representatives utilized campaign websites while running for office to how they used their official House websites once elected. In order to assist Dr. Parkin, I extensively combed through the websites of recently elected Representatives and recorded relevant information in an online form.
