Prax, Lindsey Oil Refinery

My role mainly consisted of signing out the relevant permits for the work to be carried out, liaising to have equipment and work habitats set up at the correct locations, showing the squads to the jobs and talking them through the method statement and isometric drawings with any relevant hold points and making sure that all the relevant paperwork was completed prior to the job starting. I was required to monitor the delivery of pipework to allow us to prepare for the next work packs to be complete as part of the scope and then finding the correct location and pipeline with the use of P&ID’s and plot plans and then tagging all of the cut lines, I would then ensure that all relevant pre work NDT checks on the pipework was completed at the cut lines. The arranging of any pre and post weld NDT as well as any relevant heat treatment required would also need to be communicated to the QA/QC department. Upon completion of the work pack I would then check over it and make sure all the correct tags and identification was in place and that everything had been completed correctly before communication with QA/QC with any radiography requests. Working at Mossmorran FEP as part of the maintenance team on the Pipework Risk Reduction (PRR) and Energy Capture Group (ECG) work scope throughout the different areas of the plant. The daily tasks ranged from removal and reinstallation of pipework that was thinning or generally deteriorated and had potential to cause a significant issue to creating steam tracing on installed pipework. The daily tasks ranged from removal and reinstallation of pipework that was thinning or generally deteriorated and had potential to cause a significant issue to creating steam tracing on installed pipework. Typically these jobs consisted of the reading and following of isometrics drawings in which I would then fabricate the various spools in the workshop which included pipe bending and threading when needed but most commonly socket welds and butt welds. I would be following the opening process equipment procedure (OPE) to conduct the initial line breaks before we could continue our progress on lines, using P&ID’s to locate and follow lines on the plant and then measuring up jobs and doing an isometric drawing with sizes so that it could be processed by my supervisor. I was trained in breathing apparatus so that when jobs arose that required BA sets for the initial line break or even for the full job I was able to complete those tasks. I would also conduct hydro testing of all spools that were made on site so that we could ensure that they were fit for purpose and had no defects. On the Olefins 6 TGCP project consisting of the furnaces having a complete do over. Activities included removal and reinstallation of the burners, and IGV's. Replacing the pipework leading into the furnaces and pressure testing the new pipework spools.

Doing general work for the shutdown on the Kinneil site mostly consisting of bolting up flanges and inserting valves.

Grangemouth, Kg Hydrogen Recovery

Installing and fabricating various pipelines for the Hydrogen Recovery project on the Grangemouth KG site.

Grangemouth, Ethane Tank

My work on the Ethane Tank consisted of fitting the spools and valves for the compressor house and vaporiser unit which mostly involved bolting up, and then i was part of the hydro-static testing team which pressure testing all of the pipelines on the site leading to and from the tank.

Grangemouth, Ethane Supply Line

I worked on the Ethane Supply Line was was two series of stainless steel pipelines, 24" and 4" which was to carry the ethane fuel from the Jetty's to the ethane tank. My work on this job consisted of the fabrication and fitting of stainless steel pipes.

Longannet Power Station

I worked in the Longannet Power Station for a number of months during my apprenticeship. My work here consisted of the general maintenance of the boiler units and repairing the tube leaks when they happened. I spent a lot of time doing pipe bending and learning how to use the Oxy-Acetylene burning gear for branches.

Aberthaw Power Station

I worked at Aberthaw Power Station during the Lo-Nox Shutdown which involved the boiler being replaced with an improved pipework frame. My work mostly consisted of being inside the boiler and removing banks of wall tubes, preparing the ends of the new and old pipes and then installing the new pipes into the bank.

Grangemouth Oil Refinery

Worked on Grangemouth Oil Refinery on the Hydrocracker Unit and the Oils Fabrication Shop. Spent my time on site doing the recommissioning of the pipework mostly involving bolting up and torquing flanges and pipe spools. My time in the fabrication shop involved the preparation and setting up of pipe spools and fittings including learning about the isometric drawings.
