Sam was seconded into NSW Ports for 14 months as the Acting Port Development Manager. His key accountabilities in the role including identification• Identification of NSW Ports’ infrastructure development opportunities and the procurement and management of consultants and contractors to deliver allocated infrastructure planning and feasibility studies and works projects;• Management of strategic port infrastructure planning activities including analysis of infrastructure capacity, utilisation and other strategic objectives;• Providing concept designs, cost estimates, risk assessments, tenders, programs and contracts for infrastructure development projects;• Identification of external infrastructure developments that may present risks and opportunities to NSW Ports operations and contribute to NSW Ports’ engagement with stakeholders;• Liaison with colleagues and tenants to drive the compliant delivery of infrastructure developments by tenants in accordance with requirements in leases, licences, deeds and environmental planning approvals.During the secondment Sam gained a comprehensive understanding of the Port Botany and Kembla operations and asset base, and in particular the Brotherson and Hayes Dock structures. His key projects included:• Brotherson Dock concrete protection design;• Development of a tenant bulk fuel terminal for Terminals Pty;• Development of a tenant grain containerisation facility for an MCS/Graincorp JV; and• Pilot vessel berth concept study.
