  • My primary role was to first familiarise myself with the range of electromechanical drives/controls products supplied by HMK (mainly Siemens products within the SIMATICS/SINAMICS ecosystem), and how to set them up, i.e. how to:- Assemble a complete drive system and configure it (via commissioning PC) to perform the required closed loop motion control task (speed/servo control)- Set up/program SIMATICS PLCs to provide higher level control over the drive(s) (with communication between PLC/drive achieved via a proprietary ethernet protocol)-> Programmed PLCs using both ladder logic (graphical language) and STL (low level PLC assembly language) • Gained practical experience of the above by setting up/configuring small (low power) test systems in office. • Eventual role would then have been working on actual projects; i.e. planning, sizing, installing, and commissioning the drive systems, and designing the PLC logic required to meet the automation requirements of a particular customer. • The other main role was to provide after sales/technical support for the hardware/software solutions supplied by HMK via phone/email as well as via remote desktop control of clients commissioning PCs. This typically involved: - Investigating and diagnosing drive malfunctions/fault codes etc. that were being encountered (typically would require a site visit if not able to be resolved remotely) - Providing guidance on drive setup procedures (common pitfalls etc.) where issues were the result of user error/inexperience. • Other/admin duties: contract checking, warehouse inventory.
