Supervision of intrusive ground works and exploratory drilling; planning and design of site investigations; lab testing; developing site geological profiles and geotechnical characteristic profiles; design drawings, geotechnical logs; construction oversight; training of new staff; slope stability analysis and settlement calculations; retaining wall design and construction oversight; detailed design of slope remediation and drainage design; concept and detail design of rockfall protection; reporting and coordinating with clients and contractors; geotechnical earthworks inspections; pile foundation design.

Secondment to NCTIR working as a lead site engineer within the coastal realignment team. NCTIR has been tasked with rebuilding State Highway 1 (SH1) and the Main North Line rail corridor (MNL) after the November ’16 magnitude 7.8 earthquake. Sam has been working as a site engineer within the onsite engineering team for Site 6 - Ohau Point tasked with the construction of over a kilometer of seawall, up to 10m in height and founded beneath the high-tide line, as a major retaining structure for the new SH1 alignment. In this role Sam has undertaken the project management of varying aspects of the job; including leading a team of engineers, encompassing quality assurance and construction support; procurement of materials; management of subcontractor staff including engaging contractors, tracking and approving claims, leading toolboxes and site inductions, and ensuring a strong health and safety focus on a challenging site. Sam has also actively engaged with the other work streams including the crafting of ITP’s, SWMS, RFI’s and NCR’s, maintaining a close relationship with the design team based in Christchurch, and ensuring this challenging project is delivered safely and to design, in a challenging environment and within very strict timeframes.
