I have experience in many different specialties as a nurse, you never know until you try and I am a big believer of doing work that feels fulfilling. Since my nursing school clinical rotation at a children's hospital, I knew I wanted to work in pediatrics. After graduating from Kent State University, I started as a nurse in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and stayed for the next 2 years. I became a travel nurse and started in San Antonio, TX. Nothing challenged me more than moving to a new state and city alone, getting one day of orientation on my new (temporary) unit and completely relying on communication, problem-solving, and knowledge. My second assignment was in Mesa, AZ (the hiking was amazing!). Travel nursing was a thrill, and I am so grateful for the experience. In 2020, right after COVID-19 overtook the world, I decided to return home to Pittsburgh, PA. I accepted a full-time position at Hillman Cancer Research Center as a Clinical Research Coordinator I. As a CRC, I was responsible for 8-15 patients suffering from stage IV cancer of different etiologies on phase I studies and did everything from calling potential candidates, scheduling, monitoring symptoms and treatments. Other tasks included creating PowerPoint and presenting new studies to our team, communicating with sponsors, and educating staff on new study requirements. After a while, I realized that as much as I adore my cancer patients, I missed working with kids. I transitioned to a nurse coordinator position at UPMC Western Behavioral Health Clinic for Autism and Development Disorders. I loved working with this population, supporting patients on a spectrum of disabilities and ways of processing the world. After a few years at the clinic, I decided I wanted to work in a hospital setting again where I could walk around and work with my hands. An opportunity came up for an RN position on the Vascular Access Team back at Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh and I applied. I have been here for about 6 months, and I fee like this may be my calling. I put in I, draw labs, maintain central lines, and educate on all units of the hospital. With any extra time, I am looking to get into the writing world. I have experience in many different areas of healthcare, and I have a unique perspective that I want to bring into writing pieces. I am seeking to do volunteer writing and gain experience and a portfolio.Outside of nursing, I love to spend time with family and friends, travel, enjoy nature, hang with my cat, bake, plant flowers, and read!
