Semi Retired
CurrentIn my working career, I had the pleasure of associating with so many gifted and wonderful individuals. I hold in great esteem your talent, diversity, friendships and efforts on behalf of the industries we served. While it has now been a few years since retirement, I have many fond memories of my time with so many of you.As I contemplated retirement, I decided that I wanted to tackle a skillset that was completely different than my business background. It had to be challenging, creative, and dependent on talents that I did not currently possess. I had always had a keen interest in wood carving, and decided to teach myself the art of wood sculpture. After a few years of learning all the wrong things to do, Fleming Mountain Wildlife Sculptures was born. Please find a sampling of my work of birds, decoys, and animal sculptures on Instagram (smeeks1212).Several are on on display at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lynchburg, Va. and McGraw’s Gallery in Hot Springs, Va.In addition I have had the pleasure of living on acreage in the Blue Ridge Mountains. I had the good fortune of building in a dell surrounded by boulders and the soft sounds of water cascading down the rocky landscape. I have been blessed with prolific wildlife and mountain gardens filled with rhododendron, mountain laurel, azaleas, camellias, ferns and perennials. As an aging naturalist, I will also post a few pictures of the gardens and wildlife that I have come to cherish.
