While mulling over applications for sparse employment prospects in my preferred industries, I have spent the summer writing and editing for Necessary Behavior. I work collaboratively with other writers and editors to adapt convincing copy to standards of professionalism and formatting. For this position, I have become accustomed to using Squarespace, Clickup, Clockify, and Slack. Necessary Behavior is described as a civic and social organization, seeking to provide information and resources about the contentious issues and grievances shared by young people living through the information age. Whereas I would like to gear my career, and the rest of my education, toward human rights and women's issues, my time at Necessary Behavior has been truly enjoyed.

Writing for RhodyToday has truly been the most fulfilling and informative experience of my career so far. Even though this is technically a public relations position, it has allowed me to sharpen my interviewing and research skills in a way that is resonant to the journalistic process. Working collaboratively with experienced employees of the department of Communications & Marketing on hard deadlines contributes to an atmosphere in which I have no choice but to learn. My responsibilities entail sending emails and scheduling multiple interviews each week, writing press releases and articles about different events on campus, taking edits, and updating the events calendar website. I write headlines, bylines, and captions, as well as providing the occasional pitch. During the average week I am working on three or four stories in addition to the workload from my classes.

Writing for the Good Five Cent Cigar in my earlier years of college, when I was still acclimating to the journalistic process and news writing, proved to be a defining moment. Not only did it put me further outside of my comfort zone than being a freshman in college already did, but it helped to cement the fundamentals of my chosen practice into my process. It was at the Good Five Cent Cigar that I cut my teeth, and obtained the journalistic tools that would later become muscle memory.
