Developed these projects as part of a intensive data science program:Japanese Noodle Shop Recommender: Chubu Edition - Built a noodle shop recommendation Flask app with a high degree of transparency and user control, based on applying NLP techniques (count vectorization with a custom-modified dictionary and LDA topic modeling) performed on 100s of thousands of Japanese-language reviewer comments scraped from Tabelog. The topics were given English labels, so that a search vector can be constructed without knowledge of Japanese. Recommendations are based on geographic location, numerical review score on Tabelog, and the user's choice of either similarity to or difference from the search terms.Kawasaki vs Harley Davidson: Distinguishing Motorcycle Noise by Make - Trained several ensemble models to distinguish the two makes, based on audio scraped from YouTube videos. The audio was split into one-second clips, converted to the log frequency domain, and normalized to the fundamental engine frequency, as determined by my algorithm, prior to training the model on it. Accuracy was 92%, or 95% on any 5 consecutive clips. Predicting Box Office Gross by Degree of Experience - Trained multivariate regression model to predict Box office gross of movies using the experience level of cast and crew members using web-scraped data from Box Office Mojo and econometric data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.Exploratory Data Analysis of MTA Turnstile Data - Cleaned NYC subway traffic data and combined it with Citibike traffic data to find the ideal expansion locations for Citibike to take advantage of commuters' changing habits post-COVID-19.
