Sam Montgomery, Catalina Head Coach since September 2006. Prior to assuming the Catalina helm, Coach Sam was head coach of the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas swimming program, and previous to that, he served as Director of Swimming for Swim Alberta, (2000-2004).Coach Sam has a Masters degree in Physical Education, is fully certified at level 4 in the National Coaching Certification Program, and is recognized as a chartered professional coach. He has coached swimming and water polo at the high school, university, club, regional, provincial, national, and international level in three countries, (Canada, the United States, and Guatemala), and to others via internet, He has been on the staff of regional and provincial teams in Quebec, Newfoundland, British Columbia, and Alberta including three Canada Games. He served as both Nationals swimming coach and national water-polo coach in Guatemala. He has also served on Canadian national youth and junior team tours, world cup and senior national 'B' team tours, two Pan American Games, Pan Pacific Championships, commonwealth Games, and Olympic Games teams. His swimmers have broken numerous provincial and national records and have won over fifty national championship medals. He has coached in English, French, and Spanish.Sam has served as a member of the Swimming Canada board of directors and executive committee. He was appointed to SNC's high performance, domestic, and selection committees. In 1995, Coach Sam was awarded Swimming Canada's "President's Award" for contribution to swimming in Canada; he is the only coach to have received this award. He is a current board member of the Alberta Coaches' Council and of the Canadian Swim Coaches and Teachers Association, where he previously held the position of president four times.
