Statistical Geneticist
CurrentI work as a geneticist for the China Kadoorie Biobank and work on a wide range of projects. My main interest lies in population and complex trait genetics. In particular, I am leading several ongoing projects which use biobank-scale datasets to explore natural selection, admixture and the distribution and structure of genetic variation. I am also involved with multiple other projects which explore the link between genetics and various phenotypic traits (GWAS, gene-burden testing) and diseases. Several of these projects are large mega-analyses and are part of wider collaborations involving several other research groups from across the world. My other work with colleagues in Oxford includes potential drug target development for neurological disorders, exploring variation at the HLA region and proteomic analysis.
Intern
As part of the LIDo DTP industry experience scheme, I spend 3 months at Rare Disease department in Genomics England and worked on evaluating their SNP and CNV calling pipelines in the context of low-coverage and contaminated data.
Research Assisant
I worked as a research assistant on various projects related to the biology of social insects - in particular neotropical paper wasps and ponerine ants. I was a field assistant in Trinidad and performed field experiments and collections on Polistes wasps. I also conducted similar work in Brazil on Polistes satan wasps, including RFID tracking analysis.I then worked at the University of São Paulo to collect Dinoponera quadriceps ants in the field, led the lab based experiments and perform RNA extractions and the full set of RNAseq bioinformatics analysis to explore differential expressed genes between ant castes.I also performed DNA extractions, microsatellite sequencing and population genetic analysis on Dinoponera quadriceps to investigate their population structure and breeding patterns.
