About Sam Nester

As the inaugural artist-in-residence at the Center for Genomics and Systems Biology at New York University Abu Dhabi, I explore the intersections of art and science through interdisciplinary collaborations and creative projects with scientists researching environmental adaptation and sustainability & biomedicine and health. As a trumpet player, composer, and sound artist, my work focuses on the relationship between humans and the natural world, and my projects center natural processes at the core of their design. Working alongside scientists and policymakers has become an integral part of my career, and I have received commissions for the creation of site-specific environmental sound installations and musical compositions from the US State Department, the European Commission Joint Research Centre (JRC), Colby College, George Mason University, EcoArt Project, Metropolis Ensemble, the National Parks Arts Foundation, and the City of Hobart (Australia).
