About Sam Nethery
I am a degree qualified Mining Engineer with over fifteen years’ experience in Underground Mining roles, including working in expatriate roles since 2011. I enjoy working with people from different backgrounds and learning and adjusting to the local cultures. I am always willing to share my skills and knowledge with others and I enjoy mentoring other engineers in roles that are new to them. I have held several senior roles managing engineering and operational teams, and I believe I am well suited to this type of role. I am a strong lateral thinker and I enjoy overcoming challenges at work and solving difficult problems. I prefer the variety and urgency of operational roles, but also have the technical experience required to assist with designs and plans, provide engineering solutions to problems, and to produce effective reports and presentations.

Mine Manager
Mine Manager
Dargues is a small underground Gold Mine operating at 355ktpa of ore mined to produce approximately 50koz of gold in concentrate. Following a difficult history with previous owners Dargues was acquired by Diversified Minerals and commenced development of the Decline in 2018. During this time construction of the processing plant and TSF was completed, and I commenced in April 2020 at the same time as ore processing and first stope production commenced.Throughout 2020 we continued to ramp up to full development (400m/mth) and ore production (30kt/mth) rates and commissioned the Cemented Hydraulic Fill (CHF) plant. In December 2020 the Dargues Mine was purchased by Aurelia Metals Limited, after which I was employed by Aurelia to continue in the same role.
Mining Manager
The Cosmo underground gold mine in the Northern Territory was brought out of care and maintenance following the discovery and exploration of the Lantern orebody, and exploration mining recommenced in April 2018. I was employed in October 2018 to oversee the re-start of production operations and the transition from contractor to owner-operator mining. Major achievements included building the Technical Services team and planning systems and processes, successfully transitioning from contractor to owner-operator mining and building the mining and maintenance team, and achieving target development rates and commencing stoping while operating at a significantly lower unit cost rate than the previous contract arrangement. Cosmo also achieved the best safety record and lowest TRIFR across all of Kirkland Lake Gold's operations during this time, an achievement I was very proud of considering that we were operating in a ramp-up phase with a lot of new people. The project remained in an advanced exploration stage through to March 2020 when the mine was permanently closed due to grade inconsistency in the Lantern Orebody. I managed the safe closure of the mine and removal of all underground infrastructure, which again was completed without incident during what was a difficult time for all involved.
Manager - Mining
Tembang is a small open pit and underground gold mining and processing operation located in South Sumatra, Indonesia. Combined annual metal production is approximately 40koz. Underground mine production is achieved through a combination of mechanised and handheld mining methods, including bench cut and fill (using Jumbo drills) and shrink stoping (using airlegs). The workforce is predominantly Indonesian Nationals with only a handful of Expatriates in key management positions. As Technical Services Manager I was responsible for all engineering and support functions (survey, mine geology) for both the underground and open pit mining operations. In addition I regularly provided roster coverage for the Technical Division Manager whose area of responsibility also included the processing and infrastructure departments. Upon joining the project I was able to immediately achieve the project target of 3,000 ounces per month and then consistently achieve or exceed that target for the next 7 months. This success was due to a combination of setting short term targets, identifying opportunities and shifting plan accordingly, and bringing the different work teams together to focus on a single goal.In addition to my existing Technical Services responsibilities this role also put me in charge of all Open Pit and Underground mining operations and maintenance, with a total workforce of 200 people plus the Open Pit mining contractor.

I directly led several key projects in this role including the implementation of in-cycle fibrecrete and the development of standards for meshing development faces in certain mine areas. Both of these projects were completed and implemented safely and with measurable benefits to the business.
