About Sam Nolan

Hello! I am a Mechanical Engineer with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. I have professional experience as a design engineer and have several internship experiences in diverse roles in a variety of companies. I also led a valuable Senior Design project at MSOE for NASA’s Cryo Lab at the Kennedy Space Center. I have skills in Project Management, PTC Creo, New Product Design, Hydraulics, and GD&T. I’m excited and eager to work hard, exceed your expectations, and add value to your team. Please contact me at nolansr13@gmail.com or at 262-853-7292.I have wanted to be an engineer since high school, where I was a member and then vice-president of my First Robotics team. I was putting in a lot of long hours and remember sitting in our school’s shop one day during a robot build and thinking that I could and really want to this sort of thing for a living. MSOE was an easy decision, because of the strength of their program and the fact that I could start building more robots, as well as lots of other things, right away. My First Robotics advisor was an MSOE alumnus and spoke very highly of the Mechanical Engineering program and about all the great hands-on work he was able to do.One of my projects was to design a ladder for one of our railcars that would allow the operator to get on and off safely, while being able to be safely stored away while moving. Using Creo, I designed a ladder that would tuck away into the body of the railcar and then rotate down to allow people on and off. I had to parametrically design it using the FEA functions of Creo to figure out both material and thickness needed. I’m very proud of the work I did as team lead for my Senior Design project, where our goal was to create a concept for a permanent structure on Mars that would generate electricity using the difference in temperature between the inside and outside of the wall, and to present our findings to a team of scientists at NASA’s Cryo Lab at Kennedy Space Center.Along with my technical work on my MSOE senior design, I was project manager, which involved scheduling and organizing the work of 3 other team members, coordinating meetings between the team and our research advisor at NASA, and organizing our trip down to Kennedy Space Center, where we presented our findings. During my internship at Poclain Hydraulics, I was chosen to lead a team on a trip to Japan to perform a recall on some faulty motors that had been mistakenly shipped to a customer.

Listed skills include Cad, Matlab, Microsoft Office, Windows, and 13 others.
