I have been developing the Patterson Transmission planetary crank-set since 2006. It has now been in production at FSA for four years. It has been my dream since 1987 to help evolve the bicycle beyond the pesky front derailleur with its exposed sharp edged greasy chain rings. Over the years I have had two girlfriends who mis-shifted, fell off their bikes and sliced their calves on the exposed chain rings. Is this really the logical end result of 150 years of bicycle evolution? No. It is the result of assuming that what is good for bike racers is good for everybody. Europe and Asia are way ahead of the US on this, but these bikes usually have limited gearing. My planetary crank-set solves this problem.
