I started my first business in the 5th grade. I bought number stencils and spray paint, then went door-to-door repainting house numbers on my neighbors' sidewalks. Hi, I'm Sam and I've been open for business since I was 11.I'm currently earning my MBA at Boise State University. Before enrolling in the MBA program, I owned and operated Pence Group, LLC – a marketing and design agency that I started from scratch. I was fortunate enough to work with a variety of companies, including a solar company with over $15 Million in annual sales revenue. I earned my first management position at the ripe age of 19, and I've had a passion for building and motivating teams ever since. As the best producing sales manager, as well as the youngest in the company, I decided to leave while I was on top and pursue a marketing degree at the University of Idaho. I wasn't the typical college student. I've always had a deeply rooted affinity and appreciation for art, so I spent my free time in the campus library, mastering the Adobe Creative Suite. These hours spent would eventually produce as much of a return on investment as my degree. After graduation, I took a job with the former manager of an internship I completed during undergrad. She was now the sales manager at Boise's KBOI CBS Channel 2 News Station, and I was her newest, and youngest account executive. I was able to secure $120,000 in new client accounts, and had the opportunity to create and implement marketing campaigns for some amazing companies, such as Nitro Circus and the Nevada Division of Tourism.At age 24 I was offered an opportunity to work for Idaho Athletic Club, and with the goal of getting back into team and project management, I left CBS. I was soon promoted to General Manager, and took on the most challenging and rewarding adventure of my life thus far. I was the head of a diverse 20-person staff, and in control of all the budgeting, finances, marketing and sales of a multi-million dollar health organization. During this time I was able to help Idaho Athletic Club transfer their ownership to Crunch Fitness, as well as produce a 27% increase in profits to over $5 Million annually. Any of my former employees would tell you this was the most enjoyable time they had working for the company, which is something I take great pride in. My goal is to lead larger companies with the same vision and vigor of positions I've held in the past. I believe earning my MBA will allow me to further my career, so the Boise State University College of Business and economics is where I currently reside.
