Registered Nutritionist / Registered Dietitian
CurrentI started ‘Happy Eaters’ to offer advice and support to those who are struggling to make sense of the mixed messages about what we should and should not eat. I now offer a wide variety of services all aimed at making eating a positive family experience. My achievements have been:- Developing and running regular weaning workshops for new parents privately and at the local children’s centre- Advising a wide range of clients during one to one appointments. Subjects have included disordered eating, ARFID, sensory related food issues, Diabetes, lipid lowering, IBS, weight loss, and lots of cautious and fussy eaters. I have a particular interest in mental health and women's health.- Running cooking workshops for groups au pairs and nannies covering food hygiene, menu planning and cooking skills.- Running cooking / positive nutrition / body image workshops for groups of children.- Producing client information on a range of food related issues to give to people I see in groups or individually.- Regularly writing articles for parenting magazines.- Liaising with local health visitors to ensure I am offering advice consistent to them.Health and Safety- I have an enhanced DBS check, a food hygeine certicicate and my premises is registered with Haringey council as a food business
Senior Dietitian
During this time I worked predominantly in Oncology, developing the role of the Oncology Dietitian within the multidisciplinary team.
Senior Hiv Dietitian
Mildmay Hospital offers palliative care, respite and rehabilitation to HIV positive individuals. This includes children and those with brain impairment. The hospital approach is holistic and interdisciplinary. Patient nutritional needs varied extensively, therefore challenging my role as a dietitian. I gained experience in eating disorders, paediatrics and advised on diet in relation to antiretroviral therapy. Unfortunately, this enjoyable and stimulating position came to an end as I was made redundant due to financial problems within this independent charitable hospital.
Senior Dietitian
The Royal Marsden is a specialist cancer hospital. Over four years here my work was diverse. I saw patients with many different diagnoses - cancers of the head and neck, gynaecological cancers, brain tumours, gastrointestinal malignancies and breast cancer, giving individual advice depending on the patient needs. Patients varied from newly diagnosed to those receiving palliative care and advice varied right across the board from weight reducing to intensive nutritional support. Covering the head and neck unit gave me extensive experience in enteral feeding, including liaison with community staff in the provision of home feeds. I regularly attended ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings.
Dietitian
This position was comprised of six month rotations covering oncology, including haematology; medical, principally diabetes and gastroenterology; and surgical, including neurosurgery/neurology and ENT. I widened my experience by attachments with senior dietitians working in the fields of renal, liver, HIV/AIDS, paediatrics, and care of the elderly. This enabled me to confidently work in these areas. I covered the 10-bedded ITU. I had an active role in student training and assessment and gained teaching experience. Due to my interest in oncology and haematology, I was upgraded in order to carry out a needs assessment of the dietetic service to these groups.
