About Sam Perks

A Sports Management graduate with years of professional and practical experience of sports development, managing sport projects and delivering sport events within the mental health and disability sports sector. My passion for sport has been transferred into my academic degree, coaching qualifications and work experience. I am passionate about enabling everyone, especially disabled people and people with mental health problems, to be involved in sport and I have a proven record of increasing participation, organising hundreds of sport events and building relationships and partnerships.

    Coordinated all activities relating to the delivery and development of disability tennis in the UK.Highlights included:- Supporting team GB at the first Blind Tennis International Tournament including coordinating operations for the team (accommodation, travel, safeguarding etc).- Substituting for the National Disability Development Manager and responsible for: a team of 5, a £500,000 budget, operations and action planning. During the 3 month period I was involved in strategic planning and budget setting for the next four year Sport England cycle.- Leading on and organising all logistical elements on 100+ disability events (physical disability, blind, learning disability and hearing impaired) including the Invictus Games wheelchair tennis camps.- Building relationships with partners and stakeholders including those in both the sport and disability sectors. - Communicating with a variety of stakeholders from CEOs and funders to coaches and disabled players.- Increasing disability tennis participation by 118%/132% (weekly/monthly) in under 3 years. - Coordinating training for 750+ coaches and volunteers. Working with the LTA to improve the accessibility of the tennis coaching pathway so people with a disability aren’t excluded. I also launched a Grant Scheme to support people with a disability to gain coaching qualifications and to start a career in tennis/coaching. - Completing a Project Management course which enables me to lead, manage and coordinate a vast number of projects and tasks at the same time and within tight deadlines.
