During my first year at Imperial College, I have immersed myself in learning a wide array of fascinating and challenging physics concepts. This experience has not only deepened my understanding of the subject but also sparked a keen interest in collaborative science and research. I am particularly drawn to the application of data analysis and simulation to unravel complex phenomena and effectively communicate new discoveries in physics.Imperial's commitment to nurturing skilled researchers and scientists has instilled in me a profound appreciation for the importance of teamwork in academic projects. This environment has fostered a strong work ethic, driving me to consistently produce high-quality work.My particular interest in modern physics and the manipulation of mathematical techniques, inspired me to undergo an Extended Project Qualification on evaluating different mathematical models of spacetime. I researched the problems posed by modern Big Science and massive data processing and evaluated the benefits and limitations of using relativistic models in terms of their algorithmic complexity. I also looked at analysing the accessibility of science, and the social consequences of using different models in education. This allowed me to gain experience writing academic and scientifically focused papers, which helped me to write successful lab reports at University.I also completed a project with the Engineering Development Trust, which culminated in a presentation I produced about “impossible” geometry and the possibilities of using shapes to describe modern scientific theories like entanglement and string theory. For this project, I was awarded an Industrial Cadets Silver Award. I have also competed in the British Physics Olympiad (BPhO),and was awarded a silver award. Outside of physics, I enjoy playing the Flute (Grade 8) and have been participating in orchestras and wind bands for 10 years through the Southampton Music Service. This has given me experience and enjoyment of teamwork. I have continued to play in the Imperial College Wind Band, where I am an active member of the community and a member of the committee as the Publicity Officer. I am a member of the Scouting Association, which has given me many opportunities to support the local community and organise activities for younger groups. Through Scouting, I have achieved awards such as the Chief Scout Gold Award, and the Silver Duke of Edinburgh award.
