Planning Consultant
I have recently returned to New Zealand and Andrew.Stewart Ltd, following a 16 month sabbatical in USA. Prior to living in the USA, I spent nearly 4 years with Andrew.Stewart Ltd as an Environmental Planner, and have rejoined the company as a Planning Consultant working primarily on stormwater infrastructure projects.
Assistant Crew Leader
In this role I was responsible for up to eleven crew members for 24 hours a day up to 9 days at a time. My responsibilities included teaching crew members correct and safe tool use, ensuring crewmembers’ safety at all times, motivating crewmembers, quality control of all work done, ensuring project deadlines were being met, completion of project specific paper work and reporting back to project partners (i.e. the US National Park Service) on project progress etc.As an assistant crew leader I received training in the use, maintenance and troubleshooting of chainsaws, as well as other tools such as petrol powered jackhammers, rock drills, grip hoists (used for situating large rocks/boulders in remote areas) and manual tools used for shaping rock, brushing trails, installation of fences etc. In addition, I received training on trail formation including creation of trail tread, forming correct trail grades and the installation of rock structures (i.e. staircases, retaining walls, rip rap) to better protect trails from degradation.
Volunteer
During my time as a volunteer with American Conservation Experience I was involved in a wide variety of conservation projects including revegetation, backcountry fencing and trail building/maintenance projects. The work involved physically demanding labour for up to 10 hours a day and living in remote backcountry areas for up to eight days at a time.
Environmental Planner
I joined Andrew.Stewart Ltd in 2007 as a graduate planner from the University of Auckland. Since joining, I have worked extensively on infrastructure projects including a major nationwide telecommunications network programme and the Auckland City Stormwater Capital Works Programme. My involvement in the Stormwater Capital Works Programme included resource consent assessment and acquisition, liaison with project stakeholders and engaging of sub consultants. I was also actively involved in compliance management activities for the Programme, including the preparation of compliance management reports on a site specific and programme level basis, assisting to brief contractors, and undertaking site visits throughout the pre-construction, construction and post-construction phases of the physical works projects.I have also gained experience in stormwater asset operational monitoring and compliance through a 12 month project with the Auckland Regional Council Compliance team. This involved liaison with property owners / resource consent holders, site inspections and the escalation and resolution of non-compliance issues. My experience working on the telecommunications network programme involved advising on site selection for antennas and masts, working across a number of districts throughout New Zealand, and integrating the National Environmental Standard for Telecommunication Sites into the planning process. This has provided me with the ability to quickly up-skill and understand different approaches to planning and regulatory frameworks across various districts.
