My professional goals and motives are to improve anything, organizations of people, technical systems, or operational processes. Make it better than it was before I was there.Career Accomplishments:• Network Availability increased to 99.999% - Brought WilTel Network Services from 99.98% DS3 availability to 99.999% DS3 availability in two years by a combined program of network quality assurance, involving new predictive failure programs, new training, and new engineering and operations standards. This was a very large commercial telecommunications carrier’s network covering the entire United States and over 100 market cities. • Consolidated all City of Tulsa IT functions – Initiated and completed the consolidation of all City of Tulsa IT departments into one IT department. The City of Tulsa had 4000 employees of which 300 were involved in IT services reporting to various separate departments such as the Police Department, Fire Department, Public Works and others. There was a great need to combine these functions to save money, deploy enterprise wide technology and take advantage of synergies. This involved great organizational and political skill to accomplish. It was completed in eight months under my direction and is still in use. • Integrated many new technologies into the WorldCom Network – As the Quality Assurance Manager for operations and engineering, I was responsible for identifying operational quality problems with new technologies or vendors equipment. We developed processes and procedures for the quick, safe, quality introduction of new technologies and equipment. It was said that we were on the bleeding edge of new technology. • Connection Quality – We introduced new methods and materials for making quality connections at wire, coax or fiber, thus helping to reduce outages, intermittent connections and increasing network availability. Our fiber cleaning methods and our coax connection methods became industry standards.
