Development role focusing on Rigs and Component Testing and Vehicle Dynamics.

Working as part of a small team to provide low speed aerodynamic testing in our Large and Small Wind Tunnel. This includes development of the wind tunnels to improve correlation to real-world conditions and user experience. During my 100+hours of testing for world tour teams to component and clothing manufactures, I have identified trends between rider position, clothing and speed and learnt the necessity of establishing repeatability before conclusions can be drawn.On top of this, I have built and developed three rigs that test the three other factors that effect cycling performance; tyre rolling resistance and dynamics, drivetrain friction, and component stiffness. This has involved developing test procedures, establishing accuracy, and writing manuals and risk assessments. This experience has improved my contribution to a small team developing a first-of-its-kind pedalling rig which aims to accurately and repeatably measure total bicycle efficiency.

Computational Fluid Dynamics Intern at TotalSim working on a wide variety of projects from high performance road cars, to water filtration, heat transfer and transient cycle componentry. My placement dissertation looked at correlation between cylinder drag in a small wind tunnel, freestream and CFD. The outcome provided design changes to the tunnel to better model real-world conditions for small component and fabric testing.
