EdConnect recruits, trains and supports volunteers - often older Australians - to mentor children in schools who are at-risk and/or from disadvantaged backgrounds. The volunteers really enjoy mentoring, guiding and supporting young people - and it makes a real difference for children in areas like participation, self-esteem, social skills, behaviour, concentration, literacy and numeracy. Key wins:- Securing (in partnership with colleagues from Community Foundations Australia) DGR 1 status for Australia's Community Foundation Network.- Working closely with Minister Leigh to secure the election commitment that an Albanese Government would work with the philanthropic, for-purpose and business sectors to develop a Strategy to Double Giving to Charity by 2030.- Developing strong policy reforms to lift national giving, such as expanding DGR to more charities, allowing super bequests, establishing a voluntary option to donate as part of the tax return process, and running a National Giving Campaign. - Running comprehensive national government relations strategies, making a powerful case for action to make Australia a more generous and giving nation. - Curating the 2023 Philanthropy Meets Parliament Summit, which featured sector leaders as well as MPs from across the Parliament.- Implementation of A Blueprint to Grow Structured Giving: How Australia Can Double Structured Giving by 2030, which includes sector led initiatives, such as working with financial advisers to encourage them to engage their clients to embrace or expand their giving.- Developing research projects to inform action to deliver more and better philanthropy in Australia.

My main role was to run a major government relations campaign - engaging Federal Ministers and MPs, government officials and advisers to maintain funding for Teach For Australia. In December 2016, the Federal Government committed $20.5 million, which allowed TFA to continue to recruit and train exceptional talent to teach and raise student outcomes in disadvantaged schools in cohorts commencing in 2018 and 2019.Other key roles included: - securing the commitment of five states/territories to fund and participate in the program; - seeking expansion into new states; - building support within Federal Labor; - securing the commitment of states to Teach To Lead, a two year leadership program for middle leaders - aiming to create a pipeline of exceptional leaders in disadvantaged schools; and- establishing a TFA Ambassadors group, with 31 highly influential Australians from all walks of life showing their support for TFA. http://www.teachforaustralia.org/about-us/our-people/Teach For Australia recruits and trains Australia's top talent - those with non-teaching degrees otherwise destined for lucrative careers in fields such as law, science, technology and engineering - to teach and lift student outcomes in schools in disadvantaged communities. Key achievements:• Developing the Napthine Government’s manufacturing policy package, which contained initiatives to spur innovation and economic development in Victoria.• Developing policy directions for the incoming Andrews government. In the lead up to the election I worked with divisions to develop future directions papers in areas including: regulation; tax; trade; investment; tourism; and innovation. • Supporting the development of the Andrew’s Government’s economic development strategy.• Co-leading the team that supported the development of the Brumby report on regional economic development, which identified high impact policies and a more effective policy apparatus to ensure regional needs are factored into policy development, including through the Budget process.• Engaging on key policy processes across government. For instance, I worked closely on tax and federation reform, as well as the port privatisation, with counterparts from DTF and DPC.

This job involved developing Cabinet submissions, then briefing and attending Cabinet on proposals from Jenny Macklin's portfolio of families, housing, community services and Indigenous affairs.
