I have been with the community since inception and am enormously proud of the growth from a small online team to a global organisation working with national space agencies and major industrial players.I've had fingers in more pies at Nexusthan I can count, but some of my personal highlights include:- Developing a multi-purpose containerisation standard to enable robotic cargo handling for a large scale Mars base. This standard was then used by design groups- One of the lead authors on a 20-page report on our Million Person Mars City-State, which was entered to a Mars Society competition of the same name. We were shortlisted as one of the best 10, out of over 170 entries from around the world.- Opened Nexus Aurora's presentation to the 2020 Mars Society Convention. Based on the strength of this presentation and our report, we ultimately won the $10,000 First Prize.- Principal Investigator on the FARMM project for large-scale automated space agriculture. I worked with a small team of engineers and botanists to propose an experiment for MDRS Crew 261 - Transatlantic Mars. We were selected to develop a small open source-derived agrirobot to be deployed at MDRS. Since then we have developed the core hardware and software, and our work has been presented at two conferences on Mars development.- Lead author on two technical papers - "Universal Berthing Mechanism Standard" and "Orbital Can - a next-generation modular space station architecture". I was also Lead Systems Engineer for the UBM mechanism, and carried out high-level thermal and power system design for the Orbital Can station. At CU Spaceflight, I am proud to be part of a team advancing amateur rocketry in the UK. My work on our programmes is all-encompassing, from systems architecture to aerothermal analysis to regulatory paperwork to recruitment.My main work at the society is leading the development of the UK's most powerful student rocket engine, White Giant. This will launch our Griffin rocket to 150km by 2023 - making CUSF the first European group to pass the Kármán line and (Base 11 not withstanding)… Show more At CU Spaceflight, I am proud to be part of a team advancing amateur rocketry in the UK. My work on our programmes is all-encompassing, from systems architecture to aerothermal analysis to regulatory paperwork to recruitment.My main work at the society is leading the development of the UK's most powerful student rocket engine, White Giant. This will launch our Griffin rocket to 150km by 2023 - making CUSF the first European group to pass the Kármán line and (Base 11 not withstanding) break the global amateur altitude rocket. I have guided the Griffin and White Giant programs from inception (I carried out the first propellant selection and preliminary trajectory analysis) and continue to work with an amazing team to push the limits of small-scale low-budget aerospace engineering.I also act as a roving engineer within the society, moving to wherever help is needed. Some of the other tasks I have assisted with are:- Design and testing of the propellant loading and ignition systems for the Martlet IV hybrid rocket- TPS design for Aquila, the hypersonic second stage of Griffin- CAA regulatory paperwork for Martlet IV launch in the UK- Mechanical design of payload and avionics bay for both Martlet IV and GriffinAside from engineering roles, I am the Recruitment Officer for the society. Process includedcode review, presenting to internal “clients” and validation suitable for ISO13185 projects.- Testing and validating hardware for a cell therapy equipment project.- Work on several projects involving ocular medication delivery technology at the conceptgeneration, design development, testing and validation stages.- Carrying out a detailed thermal analysis of electronics for use in aviation. Included analytical,Python and COMSOL analysis and making design recommendations for project continuation.- Undertaking research on clinical trial process for a prospective project on AI diagnostics, including meeting with the prospect to explain implications for approval and productization.- Developing manufacturing and assembly technique for a critical component of an internal medicalrobotics project. 10 week internship in the 10X team, working from home in a team to carry out preliminary simulation work for a number of novel design concepts for robotic motion systems. This included extensive simulation using specialised multiphysics simulation packages, research into existing systems and collaboration with an experimentation group to replicate and validate their results.
