I am a Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Global Data Privacy Policy (GDPP) at the U.S. Department of Commerce - International Trade Administration. My policy portfolio covers Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) Governance in the commercial context, as well as cross-cutting trade, emerging technology, and national security issues regarding sensitive personal data and AI systems, including Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS) case reviews and interagency policy committee (IPC) workstreams on data security. Geographically my work encompasses bilateral engagement with governments in Latin Americas, as well as multilaterally at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris, France where I serve on the U.S. delegations to the Digital Policy Committee (DPC) and Working Parties on AI Governance (AIGO) and Data Governance and Privacy (DGP), as well as a U.S. member of the OECD multi-stakeholder Experts Communities on Data Free Flow with Trust (DFFT) and AI, Data, and Privacy. In my time at Commerce-ITA I have led bilateral engagements on digital policy in Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, and Mexico, as well as presentations at the OECD. Much of my work involves substantive collaboration with the Department of State, Department of Justice, Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, the National Security Council (NSC), and other Department of Commerce agencies. I also regularly engage with companies and industry associations in the ICT sector. I have 16 years of diverse professional experience spanning international development, management consulting, and the U.S. federal government and the majority of my work has been internationally-oriented. an MBA from American University and a B.A. in International Affairs from the University of New Hampshire. Fluent in Spanish and proficient in French and Portuguese. Hold an active TS/SCI security clearance. Deep relationships across the U.S. Government trade, foreign, policy, and national security communities, as well as as foreign governments and industry stakeholders across Latin America, Western Europe, and East Asia. Member of Arab Americans in Foreign Affairs Association (AAIFAA).
